The original Hamilton Frogman was created for U.S. Naval 'Frogman' teams and featured in the 1951 smash-hit movie 'The frogmen'. Almost 70 years have passed since then and watchmaking technology has come a long way. What hasn't changed are the vital features that made the watch as big a hit as the movie.
The Case:
The case is made from high-grade stainless steel whilst measuring a diameter of 42mm. On top of the case is a marine blue bezel which can be wound in one direction to help set a dive timer. The watch has a water resistance of 300 metres, meaning it can be used for diving to depths. This is achieved through the crown having both a raised guard and lock function seen at three o'clock.Ā The arm/cap combo is tightly built and the big cap makes it a clinch to open and close. Unscrew the cap, swing it up and away and the crown is accessible. Furthermore, the glass is made from sapphire crystal which further reinforces this pieces class and durability.
The Bracelet:
The bracelet isĀ also made from high-grade stainless steel. For those Hamilton fans the bracelet reference isĀ H605.776.105. The bracelet has an Oyster style which is inspired from the iconic Rolex Oyster model. The bracelet is split into three links with a width of 22mm, of which can be comfortably fastened using a folding clasp.
The Dial & Functions:
The dial compromises of the same marine blue seen on the bezel whilst being complemented by white indexes and hands. Both the hands and indexes are coated in a luminous material allowing for easy visibility at night or at the depths of the ocean. The ever present Hamilton logo can be seen just underneath the 12 o'clock index alongside an easy to read date window at 4 o'clock. The hands are powered by a strong and exclusive H-10 calibre automatic movement. It features a three-hand movement while boasting a superior power reserve of 80 hours, the H-10 appears with intricate contrasting snail and pearled patterns for the American Classic models it drives and streamlined surfaces for the pilotsā watches.
