The Case:
The Seiko 5 Sports x Brian May âRed Specialâ SRPE83K1 features a 40mm stainless steel case. A black unidirectional rotating countdown bezel sits atop of the case, it exhibits a 60-minute scale in silver. The walls of the bezel are coined walls, which allows for it to be easily rotated. The crown is positioned at 4 oâclock in order to prevent it from digging into the wearerâs wrist; it is flanked by two crown guards.Â
An exhibition caseback is present on the other side of the case, it provides the wearer with an insight into the mechanisms that power the watch. It also displays Brian Mayâs signature printed in gold and the limited edition number of the watch. The caseback is screwed down, which ensures that the watch remains water-tight. Hardlex crystal glass is used on both the front and the back of the case, providing the watch with protection against scratches and shattering.Â
The Dial:
The unique design of the dial is directly inspired by the design codes of Brian Mayâs guitar, âThe Red Specialâ. It exhibits a glossy red and black backdrop that has a subtle grainy texture, imitating the distinctive wooden body of his guitar. A silver framed handset and hour markers are filled with Lumibrite material, ensuring that the dial can be read in the dark. A day-date display window replaces the 3 oâclock marker, whilst a 60-second track is located on the rehaut.

The âRed Specialââ is equipped with a black nylon NATO strap that secures around the wrist through the use of a stainless steel pin buckle.Â
The Functions:
This timepiece features Seikoâs new upgraded 4R36 automatic. The movement consists of 24 jewels and it operates at 21,600 beats per hour, offering a 40 hours of power reserve and an accuracy of +45 / -35 seconds per day. It has a water resistance of 100 metres, making it suitable for swimming and snorkelling.
